Tips for Warm Weather Motorcycle Riding
Because motorcycles are open-air vehicles, riding in extreme heat or cold can sometimes be a challenge. Thankfully, there are a number of ways to beat the heat and stay nice and cool while going on a casual summer day drive. To learn how, check out our article below.
Hydrate
When riding a motorcycle in hot weather, the most important thing is to stay hydrated. This can help mitigate exhaustion, heat stroke, and vomiting in extreme cases. Be sure to carry a large bottle of water with you, and take at least a few gulps every hour or so. Salty snacks or sports drinks are also recommended, as they’ll help keep your electrolytes high while you sweat.
Take Breaks
Even if you’re well hydrated, the heat will cause you to become tired or exhausted faster than normal. To ensure you don’t overexert yourself—or make yourself ill—be sure to take breaks in the shade regularly. If you’re commuting around town this should be fairly easy, but riders traveling long-distance on their bikes will need to time their breaks carefully.
Schedule Your Rides
Even slight dips in temperature can have a significant effect on your body, and you’ll be surprised by how much cooler you’ll feel riding around in the early morning or late afternoon. When possible, we strongly recommend trying to schedule your motorcycle rides during these time frames, and to avoid long commutes in the midday sun.
